Jellyfish

One afternoon in the studio I was mixing up some paint, creating a whole range of blue from light to dark. After playing for awhile with brushes and household materials, I paused a moment, then realized I was staring at a deep ocean filled with sea creatures! And above them all, several jellyfish were floating serenely along.

Lantern

This piece has so much energy, so much movement, that whenever I am near it, it always captures my eye. It was named for the lantern that sends its light upwards into the all the activity.

Moon Mountain

Purples and pinks and the roughness of wood turned into a fantasy world, where snow blows hard across a distant mountain. Twin moons rise slowly, one dark and one light. I wonder if someone is on the mountain watching them rise.

Bermuda Shores

I love the sheer minimalist beauty of color and texture on this one. Bermuda waters are known for their beautiful blues, but right next to them are absolutely gorgeous sea greens. Here, humble brushstrokes make tiny air bubbles where sea turtles come to the surface. A bird flying over would spy a small white line of ragged foam far below.

I should have named this one Pink Surprise because as it came together it surprised me! The different colors and shapes and textures—along with the unexpected appearance of the color of wood in the middle of them—taken as a whole they seem to want to tell a story.
